BREAKING: Texas Governor Greg Abbott pardons Daniel Perry after conviction for shooting armed agitator during BLM riots

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a full pardon and restoration of rights for Daniel Perry, the former Army sergeant who was found guilty of murder for the fatal shooting of Garrett Foster during a 2020 Black Lives Matter protest while Perry was an Uber driver.

"The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles conducted an exhaustive review of U.S. Army Sergeant Daniel Perry’s personal history and the facts surrounding the July 2020 incident and recommended a Full Pardon and Restoration of Full Civil Rights of Citizenship," said Abbott in a statement.

"Among the voluminous files reviewed by the Board, they considered information provided by the Travis County District Attorney, the full investigative report on Daniel Perry, plus a review of all the testimony provided at trial. Texas has one of the strongest ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws of self-defense that cannot be nullified by a jury or a progressive District Attorney. I thank the Board for its thorough investigation, and I approve their pardon recommendation."

In the middle of a riot, he came up to his car and raised a rifle at him. Does that count as an attack for you?

Great news but that took WAY too damn long.

Agree, but let's hope it fattens the amount he wins in the lawsuit.

It was self defense all the way.

“the driver, who was later identified as Perry, fired five shots from inside of his vehicle, hitting Foster. Foster did not fire, but another member of the group fired three shots at the vehicle. Perry and the other shooter were detained. Perry’s defense team said during opening statements at the trial that Perry had to defend himself when he was swarmed by the group, Perry did everything he could to avoid the protestors as he dropped off one of his riders downtown, and that he was fully cooperative with police, giving over his phone and providing social media passwords immediately without a warrant.”

Absolutely awesome. I hope the leftists do their research on Texas before they try stupid things like that here again.

Yes, but beware of where you are in Texas. We have some crapholes of liberalism that just seem to fester. Austin is one of them. I have many friends that live out in the surrounding counties, and it is a night and day difference. They don't go to Austin, and they do no business there whatsoever.

“It was self defense all the way.”

I see it that way. Perhaps some may not. OK. But our system is such that a jury must all vote guilty for a conviction. It must be unanimous.

To me it is ridiculous and corrupt that all members of that jury found him guilty. 25 years!

Excerpt from an old article ...
“A Travis County jury on Friday found Uber driver Daniel Perry guilty of murder in the shooting death of Austin protester Garrett Foster in 2020. The jury deliberated 17 hours over two days to reach its decision after an eight-day trial. The jury also found Perry not guilty of an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to driving in front of another protester.

Perry buried his head into the chest of one of his lawyers and sobbed loudly after the verdict was read. Foster’s wife, Whitney Mitchell, hugged friends and cried after hearing the verdict.”

Good. Now indict the judge & DA for conspiracy against civil rights under color of law.

The felony murder rule does not apply in Texas.

Apparently "Stand Your Ground" doesn't either.

Absolutely absurd he was ever prosecuted to begin with. One of the Klantifa rioters who shot at his car as he was driving away should be arrested and tried (outside of Austin) for attempted murder.

Then Austin should be stripped of any and all authority it has by the state.

And he didn’t even have to contribute a million bucks to Abbot’s campaign. What’s the world coming to.

Agreed. He should’ve never been charged. Surrounding your car in a guy winter rifle in your direction seems like a perfectly self defense claim to me.
