RE: Is Snopes pretty reliable?
For me , Snopes is considered a generally reliable fact-checking site. Here’s a breakdown of what I personally think:
Pros:
Long history: Founded in 1994, it’s one of the oldest and most established fact-checking websites.
Transparency: They cite their sources and allow readers to do their own research and think critically.
Cons:
Potential bias: Some critics claim a liberal bias, though Snopes maintains neutrality.
Rating variations: Their ratings may differ slightly from other fact-checkers due to timing or emphasis.
It’s a good idea to Look for the date of the fact check. Information can change over time.
Consider the evidence they present and see if it seems credible.
If I’m skeptical, I’d Consult other well-regarded fact-checking sites for a wider perspective.
Overall, Snopes is a valuable resource for evaluating information, but it’s always a good idea to be a critical consumer of information and consider multiple sources.
Someone else described them much better, though I forget where I saw it.
Snopes, like Wikipedia or other far-left sites, if fine for general information and non-controversial stuff. But if it’s political or controversial in any way, they’ve got a hard-Commie slant to all of it.
