KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Ukrainian units locked in street battles with the Kremlin´s forces in a key northeastern Ukraine town have halted the Russian advance, military officials in Kyiv claimed Thursday, though a senior Moscow official said the frontline push had enough resources to keep going.

Russian attempts to establish a foothold in the town of Vovchansk, which is among the largest towns in Ukraine´s northeastern Kharkiv region with a prewar population of 17,000, “have been foiled,” Ukraine´s general staff said in a midday report.

It was not possible to independently verify the claim.

The Ukies can’t halt anything. If the Russian advance stopped it was because they decided to pause…. regroup, resupply, rotate out troops- the Ukies do not have that luxury.

It’s amazing how in this totally unscripted scenario they’ll need another big chunk of cash quickly!

It’s amazing how many officials in the ukraine have suddenly come into wealth recently too. They must be great investors all of a sudden

It is quite obvious that everything talking about Ukrainian victories is nothing more than propaganda. It has been for quite awhile!

It would be unusual to rotate and regroup troops after only a few days of action.

Maybe the ukranians should stack up 100 dollar bills aa a blockade to stop the Russian? After all the US Citizens have an unlimited supply.

The Ukies can’t halt anything.

They have halted the Russians for over two years, minor and insignificant advances notwithstanding. I do not understand this Bagdad Bob denial of real Ukrainian achievements. It does not lend any credibility to your position.

It is possible the Russians have stopped to resupply rather than to rotate and regroup. But in that case, the Russian were indeed “stopped”, and the reason was logistics.

Stopped mostly from their massive casualties - all told Russia has lost over 9000 troops in the past 3 weeks, which would equate to around 3000 dead.

Russian logistics is reliant on rail and notoriously weak across open country.

My analysis as a six star armchair field Marshal says the Russians should exploit their numerical advantage by hitting the Ukes somewhere else. Attack until resistance stiffens, then attack in another location, forcing Ukraine to shift their forces to counter, then wash, rinse, and repeat. Whether the Russians will do this instead of butting their heads against increased opposition is another matter, but that is the best strategy right now.

“They have halted the Russians for over two years, minor and insignificant advances notwithstanding.”

Yes, they have with the 130 billion dollar (not counting other countries in cash, supplies, and munitions. All total the amount of support they received is double the Russian’s yearly military budget (75 billion). This does reflect badly on the average soldier in Ukraine army who have fought bravely and shed a river of blood for a hopeless cause.

The military industrial complex is rolling in dough and bathing in the blood of tens of thousands of young men on both sides. Ukraine has also done a great job funding their own coffers along with the Democrats and Establishment Republican campaigns with illegal donations from these funds. Biden is flush with cash from our aid to them. Our aid will also do a great job funding voter fraud in November.
