Hard to be a woman south of the border: The woman poised to win Mexico's presidential election doesn't seem to have a clue about how to handle all the murders of women going on

Sometimes it's hard to be a woman, to paraphrase Tammy Wynette.

Down in Mexico, it's awful to read the crime statistics.  This is the story:

According to new figures from the Mexican Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System’s (SESNSP) monthly report on gender violence in Mexico, six women were murdered per day on average during March 2024.

With 200 intentional homicides committed against women in March, alongside the respective 200 and 221 incidents recorded in January and February, Mexico registered a total of 621 murders during the first quarter of 2024.

Despite March’s slight decline in homicide figures, the number of women killed by manslaughter rose 41 percent from February to March from a reported 226 manslaughter incidents to 320.

The data placed the majority of victims as over 18, with the homicides concentrated throughout the State of Mexico (Edoméx), Baja California, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Chihuahua, Michoacán and Jalisco.

Meanwhile, Colima, Baja California and Guanajuato topped the list of most intentional homicides against women per capita across the country.

Likewise, the SESNSP report found that intentional injuries against women, kidnappings, family violence, gender violence and sexual assault against women also increased in March.

Why women  you ask?  Well, a lot of men are getting killed too but women are more vulnerable, according to what my friends are telling me.

What makes this story more interesting is that Mexico is about to elect Claudia Sheinbaum president.  She is from President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's party, and should win easily if the polls are correct.  Sra. Sheinbaum, the former mayor of Mexico City, is promising to continue down LO's path and focus on social justice.

What can she do about protecting women? I don't know and I don't think that Mrs. Sheinbaum does, either.

“”What can she do about protecting women?””

I am woman - hear me roar!!!! Beware of women seeking power!
We pay the price for it with our own Congress - THE SQUAD and many others - like wives of U.S. PRESIDENTS! None of them are without the desire to be MORE powerful....

“I am woman” and I have a strong opinion about women in politics.

Why should she have any better answers than their male candidates? And if she’s this close to office, she’s owned by the Deep State/cartels anyway.

Perhaps if Mexico had a law, similar to our Second Amendment?

The BS: More men are murdered in Mexico than women. But in a day of sex, race and gender identity politics, of course we need to separate women out.

The good: Most of these murders are in certain areas and involve certain groups or folks involved in certain activities. For folks minding their own business, using a little bit of common sense, and not involved in these illicit activities, you will likely never be a target. Mexico tries very hard to keep those areas where tourists go, and the routes along which expats travel (these folks bring money into the country) safe. If you go to Cabo, Cancun, Cozumel, their magical towns (old beautiful cities that are kept like they were a long time ago)... you will not have any trouble. In fact, Mexico has a lot of security in these places and while you can surely point to some rare and odd situation where there was crime in these tourist places, it is over all, extremely safe. ***The crime is isolated to certain places and groups.***

The bad: Mexico has an extremely high murder rate, one of the worst in the world. In fact they are #15 in terms of the worst: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

The ugly: Mexico will struggle with this problem for a long time. There is no easy or simple fix. The government and law enforcement is corrupt, corruption is sort of culturally accepted, the cartels are seen nearly as Robin Hood like by many of the people, and the demand for drugs isn't easing up.

Mexico is definetly a place where if you look for trouble, you can find it.

But it’s also a quite normal place where those not looking for trouble never run into it.
