Even if it was not directly caused by the ukes it could be said it was indirectly caused by them. The increased operational tempo caused by combat wears things out and causes them to break. It was true for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it would certainly be true for Soviet era equipment with their “eh, close enough” design aesthetic.

Backfires are an old design which was notoriously unreliable, from what I remember.
