First time they did that was actually in the 1999 spoof The Curse of Fatal Death; Rowan Atkinson’s Doctor regenerated into Joanna Lumley. Since Steven Moffat was the guy who wrote that spoof, he probably influenced that change involving Jodie Whittaker even though he was gone as executive producer by 2017.

Same here. Matt Smith was actually the last Dr Who I watched all the way through. Wasn’t a big fan of Peter Capaldi either. I have a little statue of Matt Smith as the Dr sitting on my computer as I type.

that was long ago back in 84, but still I liked a few Doctors after that.

I watched a murder mystery with David Tennant that had Jodi Whitaker as one of the major characters. She was such a whiney person in that performance that I was reluctant to watch her as the new Dr. I didn’t watch the series as it was dropped from BBC America, but saw her whininess front and center in all of the advertisements, thus didn’t bother to buy the series on DVD. And from the weekly recaps that I did read, the writing was entirely too woke for me. From what I’ve seen of this new Dr., I shan’t be paying to watch it, since it is also not being carried on BBC America.
