Go west, young student: There is a world of difference between getting an education and attending an “ivy league” school.

News coverage of the “protests” at our “elite” universities is focused mainly on downplaying, even justifying, rallies for terrorists and antisemitism, the DNA of such events. It would appear elitism now consists of academic and financial fraud as schools such as Columbia have canceled in-person classes for the remainder of the semester, relying instead on Zoom classes, the Covid “distance learning” alternative produces no learning, distance or otherwise. I suffered through that the final semester before I retired. I knew I was defrauding the public. Everyone knew it, but we had no choice. Our “elite” universities are choosing to defraud their students in favor of Marxist radicals.

Unsurprisingly, many students are demanding tuition refunds, which considering they’re paying around $100,000 a year, seems more than reasonable.

Instapundit’s Glenn Reynolds suggests students, particularly Jewish students, ought to attend college in the South:

My advice to Jewish students at these institutions: Come on down. At schools like mine, the University of Tennessee, in red states, such intimidation, harassment and lawlessness aren’t tolerated.

As Jason Aldean noted, “try that in a small town.”

In the red states, support for Israel isn’t controversial. In our allegedly elite northeastern and California universities it can get you mobbed.

People are friendly, and many of these schools have a lively Jewish presence and would welcome more. Maybe the degrees aren’t from Columbia, but the way things are going, is that so bad?

Reynolds oversells Columbia even in its current debased state. Getting a degree elsewhere is not only not so bad, it’s better.

And amenities aside, most important, you won’t be surrounded by people who hate Jews, people who are enabled, if not encouraged, by university administrations dependent on the full-tuition revenues of hate-filled foreign students and their governments

Students of all backgrounds really need to go to college anywhere but the coasts. States like Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana and others—OK, Minnesota is a lost cause--offer genuine education rather than ephemeral, self-imagined elite, credentials. There is a world of difference between getting an education and attending an “ivy league” school.

There may be differences in the costs charged for writing essays and doing exams in place of the students in Ivy League and other places. Probably the same for bribing professors in the two types.

From the Seattle Times:
How much cheating services cost
Q: How much does it cost to hire someone else to take your online class for you, with the guarantee of a B or better?

A: $1,225.15, according to the author of a disturbing article in The Atlantic about the prevalence of services that offer to help you cheat, including one called “No Need to Study.” “That extra 15 cents,” Derek Newton wrote, “made it seem official.”
Psychology Today:
Studies consistently put the level of self-reported cheating among undergraduates between 50 percent and 70 percent depending in part on what behaviors are included. The sad fact is that cheating is widespread.Sep 28, 2023

The problem is that for people who want to get a postition in an elite institution, an Ivy League Degree, or elite university degree is mandatory.

Thirty-five years ago when I was in graduate school, anyone who aspired to a tenure-track appointment with a top school economics department basically had to have an Ivy League PhD.

White shoe law firm - Ivies. Top Wall Street firm - Ivy. Even the tech co’s, once they get past the VC stage and become bureaucratized, credentialism reigns and elite university is required.

Want a Federal judgeship - elite law school. A high position in the Federal bureaucracy (even the FBI, CIA, or DOD), elite grad school is required.

The Left controls all the institutions. They screen the applicants based not just on politics, but on Regime compliance and obedience. The Ivy League student selection does that for them.

It is an elite selection and Regime perpetuation mechanism.

By all means study engineering at a State school if you want to start your own small business. But if you want to join any big institution, it is just bad advice.

I had the privilege of playing basketball with a man who had a varsity scholarship to play ball at Cornell University. His name is Kenny. One night he walked over to me when I was taking off my boots and he said to me: “Got one more?” We had won the court, hell I don’t remember what I did, but he wanted me to play with the team he was on. We won the court again and I went home after that.

I stopped hiring from Ivy League schools over 10 years ago. I want brilliant and talented people working for me, not spoiled indoctrinated lemmings who have no clue how the real world and business works.

The Ivies were always academies to train the elite. What has changed is that the ruling class no longer values education (though they can’t say that out loud).

My wife’s son worked his backside off to get the funds and grades to get accepted to Columbia. Completely on his own, no loans, scholarships or freebies.

This is his first semester and it will be his last. His first week there, he watched a woman get pushed onto subway tracks. He sees the rampant crime and absence of police daily.

Last week his classes went remote. He promptly told his advisers that if he can do his work remotely from an overpriced efficiency apartment in NYC, he can just as easily complete said work from home in Texas. And if that was not acceptable to Columbia, they could refund his tuition and fees because he has yet to receive any meaningful education from them.

Noticed yesterday that he’s changed his address to his grandmother’s house in TX. Apparently his application the a Texas university has been accepted.

Jews should learn Torah. Mainstream universities are an apostasy factory.
