Officially part of Moldova, Transnistria has since been an unrecognized statelet with a population of 300,000, claiming autonomy while receiving free Russian gas and keeping a military force of around 1,300.
Now, as Russia slowly pushes west into Ukraine and may seek to occupy nearby Odessa, speculation has grown that Russian troops will advance to Transnistria and use it as a launch pad for further operations in Ukraine or even an invasion of Moldova.

I’ve traveled the Ukraine. It is no cesspool. It is a beautiful country with beautiful people. Yes, there is corruption. No, the corruption is not as bad as in Washington, DC. There is a good guy in this. It is the one time-zone country defending itself from the eleven-time-zone country. There are lots of brave Ukrainians killing Russian rapists and Chechen criminal invaders. I admire those Ukrainian soldiers.
Let them kill each other. It is none of our business.
It’s enough of our business to keep sending weapons to Ukraine to kill the dirty lying Russian invaders.
As you probably know, that war is between two breeds of Russians. Cossacks versus Muscovites.
So if you hate Russians, then yes, all the bloodshed should be a real turn-on for you.
Mariupol? The battle ended there last month.
Not sure that “democratically elected” means much in the Ukraine.
After all, this entire conflict kicked off six years ago when the democratically elected government in Kiev was overthrown by a coup d’etat.

Why any American pports the Ukraine or Russia is a mystery.

The Russians immediately began restoring the infrastructure in Mariupol. Just ask ‘em. The began by changing the street signs in flattened areas and making sure all signs were in Russian with politically approved Russian names. Liberty Plaza was changed to Lenin Plaza. They had the propaganda production crews and actors and actresses on site before they finished changing street signs.
The shooting war started in 2014, after the coup, or almost nine years ago.
