So what happens to the Massachusetts residents on November 5 who drive to New Hampshire to vote? Do they have to pay the toll when returning to Massachusetts, or are they exempted if their driver’s license shows that they live in Massachusetts?

PS

"They started with a blank slate and created, with the help of God, the best document"

Wrong. The The Instrument of Government was the predecessor of the Constitution.

Yet more.

Road Tolls in history

Note the focus on medieval Germany, Holy Roman Empire and the Normans, all of whom the Founders descended from. The existence of road tolls, river tolls, Danegeld etc is precisely what led to them in the Colonies. It was commonplace for Anglo-Saxon and European governments in general to finance themselves this way. Note the description of the Rhine tolls that I mentioned:

"By contrast, the castle of Pfalzgrafenstein Castle in the Rhine near Kaub was exclusively used to collect river tolls. Another well known toll site on the Rhine was the imperial palace of Kaiserswerth built in 1174, while the toll station at Stolzenfels Castle was also well positioned between Koblenz and Frankfurt".

THAT is where it all came from. And the restraint of trade was well known to everyone of European descent in the Colonies.

If youre in a democracy you tell people it’s what the people want. See the majority wants it.

That is the crazy Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation. This isn’t going to go through because there are many different ways to get into the state, so it would be easy to get around tolls.

I suppose it might be possible to put up more toll booths on major roads, but discriminating between state residents and non-residents would be unconstitutional.

Putting an E-Pass or EZ-Pass or I-Pass device in every resident’s car would be too expensive and likewise unconstutitional, if intended to penalize out of staters.

For the record, Massachusetts charges tolls on the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90). New Hampshire and Maine also have toll roads. Connecticut used to.

I am from Connecticut. I hadti work hard to persuade people that the Patriots were not a big deal in CT, and that in Mass. the Red Sox, Celtics, and maybe theBruins and BC Eagles were ahead of the Pats for love. WSBK 38 was the best for hockey coverage. Cheevers was a great goalie.
